What is FORGE?
The Kansas Fatherhood FORGE initiative, funded by the U.S. Administration for Children and Families, offers fathers and father figures an 8-week, free parenting/healthy relationships program for any 18+ father living in Atchison, Douglas, Johnson, Leavenworth, or Wyandotte County.
Kansas FORGE Fatherhood's goal is to support and build upon fathers' skills in order to strengthen relationships with their child/children and co-parents.
FORGE helps fathers healthily engage in their kids’ lives, and supports their financial stability now and in the future.
Benefits
Get $65/class
$40 for childcare costs, $25 to cover transportation, $30 for food (if food is not provided), plus an additional $200 if 7 classes are completed. This is to compensate fathers for their time and to support them as they work with FORGE.
This is in addition to receiving valuable parenting and relationship skills, financial knowledge,
and connecting with a community of fathers.
Case Management
Each Kansas FORGE father will be assigned a case manager. The case manager will work with fathers to identify their goals, connect them to additional resources, and build individual development plans.
Classes
& workshops
Classes are 3-hour sessions over the course of 8 weeks. Each class will discuss how to build healthy relationships, learning co-parenting skills, parenting strategies, and more!
Each session includes a group discussion, activities, and a free meal.
Both in-person and virtual options will be available soon. FORGE offers fathers-only cohorts and couples’ cohorts.
Community
FORGE is designed to leave fathers with lasting and local connections that fathers can rely on long after the completion of the program.
Mentorship is a key component of building community and support for FORGE fathers. Once they successfully complete the program, fathers will have the opportunity to be a part of our mentorship team.
Peer-to-peer mentoring provides fathers with a listening ear and a supportive voice from someone who understands the program and shares similar family and parenting experiences.
